2017 Landmark Pinot Gris
Our 2017 Pinot Gris was sourced entirely from Landmark’s Hop Kiln Estate Vineyard on Westside Road in the heart of the Russian River Valley. The block selected for this bottling is located on the first bench (a rise in topography) approximately 60 feet in elevation above the Russian River. This block is characterized by gravelly, well-drained soils and maximizes the character of the slow ripening 152 Pinot Gris clone. All of these factors- site, climate, soil and clone contribute to the great aromatics and texture of this wine.
Pale copper/straw color, the 2017 Pinot Gris is highly aromatic with ripe aromas of melon, yellow apple, starfruit, and honeysuckle with an exotic hint of candied ginger. The palate is full, dry and crisp with golden delicious apple, honeydew melon and tropical fruit on entry. A richly textured mid-palate with wet stone/mineral elements is rounded out by sustained ripe fruit leading into a crisp, complex finish that lingers.
Crisp, textured and aromatic, the 2017 Estate Pinot Gris is a great match to wide range of cheeses particularly sheep’s milk, or try it with crab cakes or pan roasted pork chops with an apple cream sauce.
